Day 14 – Monday, August 1

8/1/22

Monday morning began with the traditional Polish breakfast of cold deli meats, cheese, bread, and tea. At 9:00 we climbed aboard our trusty bus for the treck into Gdansk for a day of sightseeing, and were treated to some impassioned campaigning from the leaders of our prospective tour groups. After a look inside Saint Mary’s Basilica and being treated to some beautiful pipe organ music, we split into 4 groups, lead by Kurt, Lizzie, Charity, and Kristen. After much consideration and indecision of spirit, I placed myself into Lizzie’s group, and we headed out. After some coffee, we walked through Old Town and purchased various and sundry souvenirs from some of the many street vendors. In order to get some perspective on life I general (and the city layout in particular), we got on the Ambersky Ferris wheel, 50m (165 ft) high! It was a really cool view with all the historic buildings and tiles roofs. Upon reaching solid ground, we headed for some lunch, deciding upon a fish and chips joint. Quite delicious! Once done with lunch we got on a tram and headed for the Baltic sea, where we got ice cream, more coffee, and enjoyed the sea breeze while some of our group put their feet in the water. It was then time to get back on the tram and head back to meet up with everyone at the bus for the trip back. We had a great evening relaxing around a campfire where we sang some of our rep for a few Polish guests of the bed and breakfast we are currently utilizing. In addition, we got to hear a story from the owner of the b&b about a vision from God he experienced in his youth! It was inspiring to be able to connect with strangers with the bond if faith, despite the language barrier. I ended with evening with some great games of billiards and Trump impersonations. A great end to a great day.
